Nissan Sales Rise in January But Xterra Sales Drop 5.4%

Nissan

Nissan North America announced that its January sales were up 16.1 percent compared to a year ago.

The company noted the increase occurred despite there being two fewer selling days this year compared to January 2009.

Vehicles showing significant sales increases included the Maxima (up 51.8 percent), Altima (up 31.8 percent) and Frontier (up 22 percent). Two SUVs didn’t fare as well. Pathfinder sales were up 1.9 percent, and Xterra sales fell 5.4 percent.

Overall, 43,829 American-produced Nissans sold in January, up 27.5 percent from a year ago. Sales of imported Nissans fell 2.8 percent, and Infiniti sales were down 5.7 percent, Nissan reported.

Nissan has reported year-over-year sales increases of between 16 percent and 21 percent since November. The increased sales come after a tumultuous 2009 that saw overall sales fall by 19 percent.
